HISTORY

Bridges, Inc. is a private non-profit organization which was founded in 1986 and became a certified provider of residential services to people who have developmental disabilities. Our main offices are located in Jamestown, Rhode Island but we have many other locations throughout the southern part of the state. The agency’s first four homes were opened in 1986 and 1987 and were the result of the state’s push to close Ladd Center, which was the state institution for people with developmental disabilities. Individuals who had resided at Ladd for a majority of their lives were given the opportunity to live in homes operated by Bridges, Inc. in the towns of Jamestown, Middletown and Richmond. Since opening the original four homes in theses communities the agency has opened six additional homes along with three apartment programs. Bridges also supports individuals who live in their own homes or with their families.

We are a progressive and creative organization, always looking for a better way to do what we do, ways that will empower the people we support. We take a holistic approach to the services we provide.
Our bphoto1consultants are known throughout the state for their dedicated and innovative approaches to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. We manage problems from many points of view incorporating multiple disciplines. We strive to be a more visible, positive presence in our neighborhoods.

Bridges, Inc. works in cooperation with the Holy Ghost Society of Jamestown, Habitat for Humanity, the RI State Police/Dept. of Corrections, Integrated Clinical Services, the Portuguese American Club in Jamestown, Special Education Departments from Richmond, Warwick, Bristol/Warren, Jamestown, Middletown, Newport and Westerly.
