our team

Bridges Inc. is a Jamestown-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting adults with developmental disabilities to live the life they choose. Our Mission is to work in collaboration with the people we support toward a life of opportunity, enrichment, contribution and purpose.

We operate 12 residences throughout Southern Rhode Island where adults with developmental disabilities have 24-hour support and can feel safe in calling Bridges “home.” Those able to live on their own, or who are living with their families, can access vocational services and many day and evening activities through Bridges.

As an agency, we are creative and progressive, always looking for a better way to empower the people we support. Our consultants are known throughout the state for their innovative approaches to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Our History

In 1986 Rhode Island was closing the doors to its state residential institution for adults with developmental disabilities. People living in the institution at that time were limited in opportunities for independent living, access to community-based resources and personal growth.

Recognizing the rights of individuals and what they can offer the community, Bridges opened its first home in Jamestown in 1986 and invited six adults with disabilities to move in and begin a new life. Since then, Bridges has acquired more residences and now works with approximately 70 people throughout Rhode Island in numerous ways to help individuals develop life-long goals and live well.
